LOS ANGELES, CA — Dwayne Johnson‘s 2015 action-thriller ‘San Andreas‘ has returned to Netflix, marking its 10th anniversary while quickly dominating streaming charts. The film, which follows a rescue helicopter pilot on a perilous journey to save his family during catastrophic earthquakes in California, originally grossed $474 million worldwide at the box office.

‘San Andreas’ has resonated with audiences due to its impressive special effects, director Brad Peyton’s vision, and a relatable lead character. Johnson plays Ray Gaines, a family man attempting to reunite with his estranged wife Emma, portrayed by Carla Gugino, and their daughter Blake, played by Alexandra Daddario.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, with a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences have given the film a more favorable reception, reflected in a 52% audience score. Fans appreciate its thrilling visuals that capture widescale destruction, reminiscent of ’70s disaster films and other blockbuster hits like ‘Independence Day’.

“As good as Johnson is,” said one reviewer, “Gugino really brings emotional depth to the story.” Their chemistry enhances the character dynamics, even as they navigate separation and impending divorce.

The film’s narrative may get overshadowed by the spectacle; however, viewers find themselves drawn into the perilous adventure, with Johnson’s character showing emotional vulnerability amid chaos. As a rescue pilot, Ray’s mission underscores themes of heroism and family bonding.

With a substantial budget of $110 million, ‘San Andreas’ became a financial success for Warner Bros. Pictures, earning approximately $54.5 million just during its opening weekend. With its streaming availability now, it has shot back to the top of Netflix’s U.S. charts, dethroning other popular titles just days after its release on September 22.

“It’s packed with chaos and visually stunning moments, making it a fun watch,” noted another audience member. Fans are reminded of the film’s blend of action and emotional stakes, positioning ‘San Andreas’ as a standout in disaster cinema.

‘San Andreas’ is now streaming on Netflix, alongside other popular titles like ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.
