Elon Musk’s Claim to be a Top Diablo 4 Player Under Scrutiny
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has recently sparked controversy in the gaming community with his claim to be one of the world’s top 20 players of the popular action RPG, Diablo 4. Musk made this assertion during an episode of the Joe Rogan podcast, stating that he is ranked in the top 20 on a leaderboard, alongside only one other American player.
However, an investigation into Musk’s claim reveals that the leaderboard in question is hosted on Helltide.com, a site that tracks completion times for a specific endgame dungeon called The Pit. While Musk is indeed ranked 20th on this leaderboard with a run time of 2 minutes and 45 seconds, the context of this achievement is crucial. The leaderboard includes less than 1,000 players, which is less than 6 percent of the game’s latest 24-hour peak player count on Steam.
Helltide.com’s co-owner has supported Musk’s claim but also acknowledged the limitations of their leaderboard, noting that there is no way to verify runs that are not recorded and shared. This raises significant doubts about whether Musk’s ranking accurately reflects his standing among all Diablo 4 players worldwide.
Diablo 4, developed by Blizzard, is the latest installment in the Diablo series and has been a subject of discussion among gamers for its gameplay and visual aesthetics. The game follows 30 years after the events of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls and features a dark and challenging environment, which some players have criticized for its gloomy aesthetic and poor visual design.
In addition to the leaderboard controversy, Diablo 4 is set to receive a significant mid-season update in Season 6, which includes balance changes, bug fixes, and new unique items. This update aims to address various issues and enhance gameplay for the player base.
