LOS ANGELES, CA — Elton John left fans puzzled after posting a photo from a hospital bed to promote the release of the sequel to the cult classic film, ‘Spinal Tap.’ In a recent Instagram carousel, the 78-year-old singer was seen reclined in a hospital bed, sporting fully bedazzled casts on both legs and a neck brace. The scene included balloons, cards, and flowers, leading many followers to believe he was actually injured.

John captioned the post, ‘Rocked too hard… ended up in a cast! Backstage with Spinal Tap 🤘’, clarifying the playful nature of the image, which was intended to promote ‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,’ released on Friday. Fans reacted in concern, with one commenting, ‘Have a safe recovery ❤️❤️,’ while others sent their love and prayers.

However, it was evident to some that the post was part of a promotional stunt. Behind-the-scenes images from the soundstage and a photo of John on camera monitors accompanied the hospital picture, indicating it was all in good fun. The sequel comes 41 years after the original film, which was released in 1984 and did not feature John.

The new film sees the fictional band from the first movie reunite for one last performance after a 15-year break, with John contributing to two new songs, ‘Listen To The Flower People’ and ‘Stonehenge.’ Other music icons, including Paul McCartney, are also set to make cameos.

John has a long history with the film’s director, Rob Reiner, who previously discussed the impact of the original ‘This Is Spinal Tap,’ noting how audiences initially thought it was a real documentary. ‘People came up to me after the first screening and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you make a movie about a band nobody’s ever heard of?’’ Reiner recalled.

As excitement builds for the sequel, fans are eager to see how the story unfolds and the antics of the aging rock band, as well as John’s shiny cameo.
