ESPN+ to Launch Integrated Hub on Disney+ in December 2024
The Walt Disney Company has announced a significant expansion of its streaming services with the integration of ESPN+ into Disney+. This new ESPN hub is set to launch on Disney+ in the United States on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. This move will provide subscribers who are part of the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ trio bundle full access to all ESPN+ sports content directly within the Disney+ platform.
The integration will allow all Disney+ subscribers to access select ESPN content, including certain live sports events, games, studio shows, series, and documentaries. This enhanced offering is part of Disney’s strategy to create a comprehensive sports destination and reduce subscriber churn by centralizing its streaming services.
In addition to the December launch, Disney plans to introduce ESPN’s flagship direct-to-consumer (DTC) offering in early fall 2025. Subscribers to this flagship product and Disney+ will have access to the full suite of ESPN and ESPN+ content within the Disney+ platform. The ESPN app will also feature innovative digital enhancements, further solidifying Disney+ as a primary hub for entertainment and sports.
Internationally, Disney has already established an ESPN hub within Disney+ in Latin America and is expanding live sports content to other countries, such as Denmark. This global expansion underscores the growing importance of sports programming in the streaming market, with competitors like Amazon and Netflix also increasing their involvement in sports content.
