Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon Recall Packaging

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WKRC) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated a recall of Kirkland Signature smoked salmon sold at Costco to a Class 1 recall, the agency’s most severe risk classification, due to potential Listeria contamination.

The recall, initially issued in October 2024, was recently reclassified after further evaluation. The FDA defines a Class 1 recall as a situation where there is a ‘reasonable probability’ that consuming or being exposed to the product could cause serious health consequences or death.

The affected product includes 111 cases of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon in twin 12-ounce packages, identified by UPC 0 96619 25697 6 and Lot 8512801270, with a best-by date of November 13, 2024. While the product is no longer on store shelves, officials warn that some customers may still have it in their freezers.

‘Consumers who purchased this product should not consume it,’ the FDA stated. ‘They should either discard it or return it to Costco for a full refund.’

Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria identified in the recall, can cause severe infections, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.

Costco has not yet issued a public statement regarding the reclassification but has been cooperating with the FDA throughout the recall process. Customers with questions are advised to contact Costco customer service or visit the FDA’s website for more information.
