Taliban Pakistan Border Clashes October 2025

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Clashes erupted late Saturday between Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistani soldiers along their shared border, escalating tensions following a Pakistani air strike in Kabul earlier this week.

The Afghan Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Enayatullah Khwarizmi, reported that Taliban forces launched “successful retaliatory” attacks against Pakistani positions in response to “repeated violations” of Afghan territory. This operation concluded at midnight local time.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, deemed the Afghan attacks “unprovoked,” asserting that Pakistani forces would respond “with a stone for every brick.” He condemned the Afghan firing into civilian areas as a violation of international laws.

Security sources indicated that the fighting occurred at more than six locations along the border, prompting a “strong, intense response” from the Pakistan Army. They shared video footage showing the night sky illuminated by gunfire and artillery.

These exchanges followed significant explosions reported in Kabul, which the Taliban blamed on Pakistan’s actions. Islamabad, however, has not confirmed any responsibility for the attacks.

Iran, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia have all called for restraint from both sides amid escalating tensions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan for regional health, while Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged both nations to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy.

In a recent statement, Saudi Arabia expressed concern over the clashes, advocating for dialogue to foster peace and stability in the region.

As tensions rise, former U.S. envoy Zalmay Khalilzad labeled Pakistan’s air strikes in Kabul a “huge escalation” and underscored that military action is not the solution. He called for negotiations to address the issues along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Pakistani forces have been on high alert following the recent clashes, committing to a robust response against any further violations of their airspace, as stated by Khwarizmi.
