CHESHIRE, CT – Emergency crews responded to a dormitory fire at Cheshire Academy on Tuesday morning. Firefighters were dispatched around 4:50 a.m. to a report of flames in one of the dorm buildings on Main Street.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire originating in the attic, which was burning through the roof. In total, 17 individuals, including both students and staff members, were inside the building at the time, but all managed to evacuate safely. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters quickly began an aggressive attack on the blaze with the assistance of mutual aid units. They were able to extinguish the fire after a significant effort. Investigators believe that the fire started in the room of a resident advisor located on the second floor, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

Fire officials described the damage as extensive, with the most severe impact occurring to the roof and the second floor of the building. Additionally, the first floor is believed to have sustained water damage.

The Cheshire Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal are currently working together to investigate the incident further. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
