Flash Flood Warning Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara, California — A flash flood warning has been issued for the interior mountains of Santa Barbara County, effective until 4:15 p.m. Thursday. This warning follows thunderstorms that brought heavy rainfall to the area, particularly near Highway 33 west of Ojai, Rose Valley, Lockwood Valley, Reyes Peak, and Old Man Mountain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

As of 1:11 p.m., rainfall amounts ranged from 0.5 to 1 inch, with rain rates expected to reach up to 1 inch per hour. The NWS indicated that the area has already experienced significant rainfall, leading to concerns about flash flooding.

The NWS cautioned that the heavy rain could lead to flash flooding near small creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying regions. Residents are strongly advised to seek higher ground if needed and to avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.

Additionally, hikers and campers are urged to stay away from creeks and streams during this weather event. The forecast for Santa Barbara shows a 20% chance of thunderstorms Thursday and Thursday night, with a slight chance of showers expected countywide on Saturday, according to the NWS.
