Flysafair Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Bloemfontein To Save Passenger's Life

A FlySafair flight traveling from Cape Town to Lanseria took a detour and made an emergency landing in Bloemfontein to save the life of a passenger in distress. The flight, carrying 184 passengers, departed from Cape Town International Airport at 07:20. During the journey, a male passenger on board experienced a medical emergency that required immediate attention.

The FlySafair spokesperson, Kirby Gordon, mentioned that the crew quickly assessed the situation and provided basic first aid to the passenger in need. Despite their efforts, the passenger, estimated to be around 60 years old and on blood pressure medication, lost consciousness onboard. It was suspected that he may have suffered a stroke.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the captain decided to divert the flight to Bloemfontein, the nearest airport, for urgent medical assistance. The flight landed safely in Bloemfontein at 08:43, where medical personnel were waiting to attend to the passenger. He was stabilized in an ambulance and then transferred to the nearest hospital for further treatment.

The swift and professional response from the FlySafair crew was commended by one of the passengers who witnessed the incident. Despite the challenges faced during the emergency, including the visible distress of the crew, the assistance provided on board was exceptional. The crew’s care and support extended not only to the patient but also to his partner.

FlySafair emphasized that their staff are trained to handle medical emergencies on flights, although such situations are rare. While the current condition of the passenger remains unknown, the airline expressed hopes for a speedy recovery for the individual involved.
