Former Osun Commissioner Urges Nigerians With Hypertension To Avoid Watching Afcon Final Match

A former commissioner in Osun State, Mr Remi Omowaiye, has issued a cautionary message to Nigerians suffering from hypertension, advising them to refrain from watching the final match of the African Cup of Nations, taking place on Sunday. This warning has come following reports of several football fans losing their lives due to shock during the semi-final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

As a previous commissioner and football enthusiast, Omowaiye himself experienced an intense emotional response during the penalties awarded against Nigeria in the dying minutes of the semi-final match. In light of this, he has decided to skip watching the final match live and instead will watch the replay after the match concludes.

Furthermore, Omowaiye called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay tribute to those who lost their lives while supporting the national team. He emphasized that even in death, these individuals deserve to be honored for their dedication to Nigerian football.

“The Super Eagles of Nigeria should mourn those who died while watching the semi-final match on Wednesday. I want to advise Nigerians in their interest, especially those managing hypertension,” expressed Omowaiye.

Explaining his personal experience during the semi-final match, Omowaiye said, “The way I felt, particularly when a penalty was awarded against Nigeria, I had never felt like that in my whole life. I was shivering. Even after the match, I was still shivering. I advise Nigerians managing hypertension to avoid watching the final match.”

As the final match approaches, the focus now turns towards the NFF, with Omowaiye urging the federation to formally mourn the individuals who lost their lives due to shock during the semi-final match. Their memory deserves recognition and respect.
