Four-way Battle Expected in Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Elections 2024
The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, setting the stage for a four-way battle in Tamil Nadu in 2024. The parties gearing up for the contest include the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) along with their respective allies.
DMK, led by MK Stalin, has formed alliances with Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Indian Union Muslim League, and Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi. A notable addition to their alliance is Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam.
On the other hand, the AIADMK, under the leadership of Edappadi K Palaniswami, has chosen not to continue its alliance with the BJP. Instead, it has formed new alliances with parties like Puratchi Bharatham and All India Forward Bloc.
The BJP, on the other hand, is strengthening ties with regional parties such as TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and the Tamil Maanila Congress. Discussions with Pattali Makkal Katchi are reportedly ongoing.
The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has decided to go solo in the elections, opting to contest all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. Other parties like the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam have not made their final alliances known yet.
