GCI and Xumo Launch New Streaming Device: Xumo Stream Box for Enhanced TV Experience
GCI, Alaska’s largest telecommunications provider, and Xumo, a joint venture between Comcast and Charter, have announced the launch of the Xumo Stream Box, a new 4K streaming device designed to simplify content discovery for GCI’s internet customers. This launch comes just in time for the holiday season, offering users an intuitive and content-forward streaming experience.
The Xumo Stream Box is available free with GCI’s internet service or can be purchased at a retail price of $59.99. The device features a voice remote that allows users to search for shows or movies by voice, searching across various apps and services to find the desired content. It comes preloaded with hundreds of streaming apps, including live streaming services like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and Fubo, as well as popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and more.
The Xumo Stream Box also includes Xumo Play, a free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service with over 350 free live channels and thousands of on-demand movies and TV shows from apps like Tubi and Pluto TV. The built-in channel guide and “My List” feature allow users to personalize their viewing experience, making it easier to find and watch favorite programming.
This device is powered by Comcast’s global entertainment platform, which includes universal voice search capabilities and processes 15 billion entertainment-related voice commands daily. GCI joins other major U.S.-based cable operators like Charter, Comcast, Cox, and Mediacom in offering the Entertainment OS-powered Xumo Stream Box to their customers.
The launch of the Xumo Stream Box underscores the growing trend of streaming services and devices aimed at enhancing the TV viewing experience. With its comprehensive suite of features and user-friendly interface, the Xumo Stream Box is poised to make a significant impact in the streaming market.
