SONY CONFIRMS GHOST OF YŌTEI RELEASE TIMING
San Mateo, California — Sony announced that the highly-anticipated sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, will launch globally on October 2, 2025. However, players in some U.S. time zones will have the opportunity to play a few hours earlier on October 1.
In the United States, Ghost of Yōtei will unlock at midnight Eastern Time. This translates to 9 p.m. Pacific Time and 10 p.m. Mountain Time on October 1. Players can pre-load the game, which requires just over 80GB of storage, with the digital edition available since September 29.
The game is positioned as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, featuring advanced graphics and gameplay mechanics that leverage PS5’s hardware capabilities such as haptic feedback and ray tracing. No version for PlayStation 4 or other consoles is planned.
IGN has already reviewed Ghost of Yōtei, awarding it an 8 out of 10. The review noted that while the story may be predictable, the game shines with its beautiful landscapes and fluid combat.
Ghost of Yōtei explores the journey of Atsu, who seeks revenge against a group known as the Yōtei Six for the death of her family. The game promises an expansive open world filled with stunning scenery, varied combat, and a deep lore reflective of samurai culture. Players can expect around 40 to 50 hours of gameplay on the main story alone.
Pre-order bonuses include digital art and special avatars, while both standard and deluxe editions will be available. The deluxe edition offers three-day early access and additional perks for players who opt for it.
Ghost of Yōtei has received a favorable reception from critics, currently holding a Metacritic score of 87, surpassing its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima. The anticipation around the game suggests it could be a contender for game of the year.
