Google TV Unveils AI-Powered Updates at CES 2025
Google TV is set to revolutionize the viewing experience with a suite of AI-powered updates announced at CES 2025. The new features, including presence sensing, hands-free voice controls, and AI-driven news summaries, aim to make TVs smarter and more intuitive than ever before.
One of the standout features is presence sensing, which allows compatible TVs to detect when someone is in the room. When activated, the TV can wake from sleep mode and display a Nest Hub-like interface, showing weather updates, calendar appointments, and even live feeds from Nest cameras. This feature, demonstrated on an unnamed TCL model, works seamlessly, lighting up the screen as users approach and transitioning to the hub interface when they get closer.
Hands-free voice controls are also getting a major upgrade with the integration of Gemini, Google’s advanced AI model. Gemini promises faster processing and more accurate results, making voice commands more efficient and reliable. Google showcased examples of Gemini in action, such as finding movie recommendations based on specific criteria or answering general queries about travel by pulling relevant YouTube videos.
Another new feature, ‘News Brief,’ uses AI to summarize trending news topics and curate videos from reputable sources. This feature refreshes multiple times a day, offering users a quick way to stay informed without opening a separate app.
Google has confirmed that these updates will roll out later this year on select Google TV devices. The company also hinted that this is just the beginning of what Gemini-powered features could bring to the platform.
