Haryana Election Results 2024: BJP on Course for a Third Term, Opposition Faces Defeat
The State of Haryana witnessed a significant political development as the election results of 2024 were unveiled, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poised to secure a third consecutive term in the state. According to the latest reports from the Election Commission, the BJP was leading on 50 seats, while the Congress was trailing with 34 seats, despite exit polls suggesting a potential Congress sweep.
The key contenders in this election included the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). The BJP’s victory marks a continuation of its governance in the state, while Congress, which was hoping to break its decade-long losing streak in Haryana, failed to secure the required majority.
Nayab Singh Saini, the incumbent Chief Minister of Haryana, successfully retained his seat in the Ladwa constituency, winning by a margin of 16,054 votes. Sources indicate that the BJP plans to retain Saini in the Chief Ministerial position. “The people have rejected the Congress,” said Union Minister and former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, citing the positive impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s policies as a reason for the party’s success.
Despite initial projections by the TV-Today C-Voter suggesting a potential win of 50-58 seats for Congress, the BJP’s strategic gains have proven the early predictions incorrect. In a surprising contest, Savitri Jindal, an independent candidate and mother of industrialist and MP Naveen Jindal, won the Hisar assembly seat.
Citing sources, NDTV reported that the BJP has confirmed its confidence in Saini, aligning with their current political strategy. Meanwhile, key Congress figures like Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Aditya Surjewala secured significant victories in their respective constituencies.
The ongoing analysis of the election dynamics continues as the state moves towards confirming the official results. The BJP has maintained its lead over the Congress, even amid accusations from the Congress of inconsistencies in vote counts and claims of “mind games.” Jairam Ramesh of Congress expressed confidence, affirming that “the game is not over,” despite the unfavorable trends for the party.
As of the latest updates, Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP convener, commented on the evolving results, stating the “biggest lesson” is to avoid overconfidence in elections. The political landscape remains dynamic as various parties wait for the finalized vote tallies across the state.
