Hina Khan Brown Tissue Silk Saree

In a recent public appearance, actress Hina Khan, who has been candid about her battle with stage three breast cancer, showcased resilience as she attended an event in a brown tissue silk saree designed by Masaba Gupta. Despite her health challenges, Khan maintained her connection with fans through social media, revealing her struggle with neuropathic pain caused by chemotherapy.

Hina Khan shared her experience on Instagram, where she posted photos wearing the exquisite saree. Accompanying the images, she apologized for pairing the traditional attire with sneakers, which she attributed to the ‘crippling neuropathic pain’ making it difficult to stand for extended periods. “Nowadays, anything cushioned in my feet gives me comfort in walking…which is why we decided to wear a super comfy pair of shoes beneath my saree,” Khan explained.

Despite her concerns about altering the saree’s look, Khan’s fans overwhelmingly supported her decision. Comments flooded in with encouragement, with one user stating, “You slayed it,” while another praised her by saying, “You are such an inspiration.” Fans commended her for her bravery and noted she looked beautiful, even with the unconventional footwear addition.

Dr. Shiva Kumar R, a senior consultant neurologist at Manipal Hospitals Sarjapur Road, elaborates on neuropathic pain, noting its origin from nerve damage or dysfunction leading to miscommunication between nerves and the brain. “This can cause intense sensations like burning, sharp shooting pain, and numbness,” he stated, emphasizing the condition’s impact on daily activities such as standing and walking.

Management of such pain includes various approaches, among them medication, physical therapy, and lifestyle adjustments. Techniques like spinal cord stimulation, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and neurofeedback play roles in both alleviating pain and addressing psychological impacts, according to Dr. Shiva Kumar. Neuropathy’s influence on mental health, potentially leading to depression and anxiety, underscores the need for a holistic treatment strategy.

Hina’s choice to attend the event despite her health challenges highlights her determination to maintain a semblance of normality and continue her professional commitments. Her story serves as a testament to the resilience often required to navigate life with chronic pain or illness.
