Hoax Bomb Threats Send Nearly 100 Delhi Schools Into Panic

Nearly 100 schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region took swift action today after receiving alarming bomb threat emails. Delhi Police conducted thorough searches resulting in the termination of exams, evacuations, and an early dismissal for students.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, confirmed that the emails were traced back to a Russian domain, indicating the likely use of a single IP address to send out threats.

Among the first schools to receive such threats were Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka. Subsequently, approximately 100 additional schools also received similar emails.

One of the affected schools, Delhi Public School, issued a notice to parents stating, “This is to inform you that the school has received an email that threatens the safety and security of the students. As a precautionary measure, we are sending the students back home immediately.”

In response to the situation, Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa assured parents that no suspicious items were found during the search operations. The education minister, Atishi, advised parents to remain calm as the school premises were being thoroughly checked.

Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred at the Delhi Police School in RK Puram, where a bomb threat was ultimately deemed a hoax after investigations.
