LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have announced the launch of official mod support for the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy, the popular open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. The free update, releasing on January 30, 2025, will introduce a Creator Kit and in-game Mod Manager, empowering players to customize their magical experience.

The update, available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, marks a significant milestone for the game, which has sold over 30 million units since its February 2023 release. “The keys to the castle are now in the hands of the Community!” reads a Steam post from Portkey Games, the publishing label behind Hogwarts Legacy. The update will allow players to create and share mods, ranging from cosmetic changes like new hairstyles to expansive additions such as custom dungeons and quests.

“We’ve made it easy for everyone. It’s all simplified with official tools provided by us,” said Chandler Wood, Avalanche Software’s community manager. “For mod creators, you’ll be able to get the official Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit, free on the Epic Games Store. The Creator Kit provides powerful tools right at your fingertips, allowing you to flex your inner developer like the ones here at Avalanche and conjure the magic with custom mods that other players can enjoy, too.”

To kickstart the modding community, Avalanche has collaborated with early adopters to release a selection of pre-made mods at launch. These include creative broom options like dragons and vacuum cleaners, unique cosmetics, an endless dungeon mode, and a magical creature fetch quest. The studio anticipates a wave of user-generated content in the coming months, further enriching the game’s already expansive world.

Hogwarts Legacy, set in the 1800s, allows players to attend classes, learn spells, and uncover an ancient secret that threatens the wizarding world. The game has received consistent post-launch support, including updates like a photo mode and new cosmetics. While mod support is currently exclusive to PC, the developers have not ruled out the possibility of extending it to consoles in the future.

Since its release, Hogwarts Legacy has become a cultural phenomenon, with versions available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The addition of mod support is expected to breathe new life into the game, offering players endless opportunities to personalize their magical adventures.
