The Election Commission has declared results for all the 13 assembly seats that went to bypolls on July 10. The Opposition’s INDIA bloc has emerged as a significant gainer, securing victory in 10 seats, while the ruling BJP was successful in only 2 seats. The results also included an Independent candidate clinching one seat.

In West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress swept all four seats. Similarly, the Congress party won four seats — two each in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The Aam Aadmi Party secured a win in the lone seat in Punjab.

West Bengal specifically witnessed the TMC‘s dominance with victories in Raiganj, Bagda, Ranaghat Dakshin, and with a lead in Maniktala. The Congress managed to secure wins in Himachal Pradesh’s Dehra and Nalagarh seats, whereas the BJP claimed a victory in Hamirpur.

The bypolls were seen as a significant testing ground for the opposition INDIA bloc, marking the first electoral challenge post the general elections earlier in the year. The results signified a shift in political dynamics, showing the population’s inclination towards the opposition coalition.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that the bypoll results indicated the declining political credibility of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah. The victories showcased a strong rejection of BJP’s governance and policies, alluding to the rising strength of the INDIA bloc.

Further results detailed the success of Congress candidates, marking significant wins in constituencies like Badrinath, Manglaur, and Jalandhar West. Strong leads and victories were also seen in Himachal Pradesh’s Dehra and Nalagarh, showcasing a shift in state politics.

The BJP’s limited wins in Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh signify a transitional phase in the political landscape across various states. The results overall indicate a changing tide in the political sphere, with the opposition gaining ground and asserting their presence against the ruling NDA coalition.
