Instagram App Outage News

NEW YORK, NY – Users across the globe reported issues with Instagram on Monday, March 17, 2025, around 11 a.m. ET. This outage affected millions of the app’s more than two billion monthly active users, leaving many unable to access their accounts or use the platform’s features.

Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages, indicated that the problems were particularly severe in the United States, United Kingdom, parts of Europe, and Australia. Reports of the outage prompted a surge of activity on X, formerly known as Twitter, where users flocked to share their frustrations.

“Is Instagram down?” became a common phrase among users seeking confirmation of the outage, while others lamented that the platform seems more prone to issues than its counterparts. Recently, one user expressed their disbelief, posting, “When is Instagram not down?”

The cause of the outage remains unclear, as Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has yet to release a statement or provide any details. This marks the second significant outage for Instagram in a week, raising questions about the platform’s reliability.

Instagram was ranked the third most popular social media app globally in 2024, making its frequent issues concerning for its expansive user base. The constant influx of complaints and memes about the outages on X highlights the frustration felt by many users, with some joking that Instagram users “always run to X” during downtimes.
