Iphone 13 Satellite Messaging Update

Cupertino, California — Apple has released the iOS 18.5 update, enabling the iPhone 13 lineup to access carrier-provided satellite messaging capabilities. This significant feature allows users with iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Pro Max to utilize T-Mobile‘s Starlink-powered satellite messaging service, ahead of its trial period ending in July 2025.

The update, confirmed in an announcement on May 12, 2025, signifies a pivotal development for iPhone 13 users as it enables them to send messages in locations where cellular coverage is lacking. Apple emphasizes that the satellite features are exclusive to the iPhone 13 series, excluding the advanced satellite functions available on iPhone 14 models and newer.

In addition to satellite messaging, iOS 18.5 introduces several enhancements and fixes. Users will find a new Pride-themed wallpaper and an updated Screen Time feature, which now notifies parents when their children enter the Screen Time passcode on their devices. This aims to help parents monitor their child’s device usage more effectively.

Changes to the Mail app are also noteworthy, allowing users to toggle contact photos on or off more easily through a new menu. Previously, this option was buried in the Settings app. The update has made the “All Mail” inbox view more visible, allowing for easier access to all email categories.

Apple also enhanced the AppleCare information section in Settings, which now includes a banner with detailed coverage options. The iOS 18.5 update is rolling out to all compatible devices now, and users can check for the update by navigating to the Settings app, selecting General, and then Software Update.

As Apple continues to refine the iOS experience, users can expect further updates as the company heads towards the anticipated iOS 19 beta beginning at WWDC in June.
