NORMAN, Okla. — Isaiah Sategna is making a name for himself in Oklahoma‘s football program, showcasing his remarkable speed as a wide receiver. The transfer from Arkansas has started his journey with the Sooners strong, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive success.

Sategna, whose mother Dahlia represented Jamaica in the 1992 Olympics and whose father Mario was an All-American decathlete at LSU, has athletics in his blood. ‘Track was always in my blood,’ Sategna said. ‘That’s what I thought I was going to end up doing.’

Although he excelled in track in high school at Fayetteville, ranked No. 4 in his class by MileSplit, Sategna fell in love with football. ‘Whenever I started playing football, I was like, ‘Ooh, I kind of like football. I kind of like catching passes,” he recalled. His decision to focus on football paid off, as he played three successful seasons with Arkansas, recording notable achievements.

In 2024, Sategna amassed 491 receiving yards and one touchdown on 37 receptions while making a notable impact on special teams. After transferring to OU, Sategna saw an uptick in his production, highlighted by a 97-yard performance against Temple. ‘We just have to keep that going. Right now, I feel like the only people that can hurt us are ourselves,’ he stated.

As Sategna prepares for Saturday’s game against No. 22 Auburn, he remains optimistic about his role. ‘I’ve always been the same person, an explosive playmaker,’ he said. ‘I’m expected to do that. That’s what’s going to keep happening moving forward.’

Oklahoma’s offense looks to build on their impressive start, scoring 101 points over the first three games. Sategna’s speed, a trait he attributes to his parents’ competitive spirit, positions him as a crucial asset for the Sooners as they aim for victory this weekend.
