Jason House Sworn In As Dolton’s New Mayor Amid Continued Controversy

DOLTON, Ill. – The Village of Dolton officially welcomed Jason House as its new mayor on Monday night, signaling the end of Tiffany Henyard‘s controversial administration. House, who won the February primary and the general election last month with over 95% of the vote, took the oath of office in a packed ballroom at Royal Estates Assisted Living.
House emphasized the importance of unity during his inauguration speech, declaring, “That’s what’s really going to grow this moment to its culmination. And that’s what it’s going to take for us to work together.” He was joined by Clerk Alison Key and Trustees Kiana Belcher, Brittney Norwood, and Edward Steave, all promising to lead with transparency and work towards financial stability for Dolton.
The village, which has faced scrutiny over financial mismanagement during Henyard’s tenure, plans to conduct audits focusing on the Police, Water, and Housing departments. House expressed concern over potential mismanagement but reassured residents, stating, “We’re going to seek the funding that we need. We’re going to get it. We’re going to make the tough decisions collectively as a board that are necessary.”
Residents are hopeful for the change in leadership. Vivian Allen and Jessie Jones, vocal critics of Henyard, expressed excitement for House’s administration. “I feel love, and passion and comfort,” Jones said, indicating the community’s eagerness for a fresh start.
Henyard did not attend the ceremony, marking five consecutive absences from village meetings. Her administration remains under federal investigation, with no charges currently filed. Jason House’s administration hopes to address the issues brought to light during Henyard’s controversial leadership, which included allegations of excessive spending and a $3.6 million deficit in village funds.
As House begins his term, he aims to not only restore Dolton’s financial health but also improve local safety and the business environment, with the hopes of uniting the community towards a brighter future.
