Jennie, the prominent member of the global pop sensation BLACKPINK, has made a return to the music scene with her latest solo single titled “Mantra,” released on October 10, 2024. This marks the beginning of a new era for Jennie as a solo artist, following her initial solo debut in 2018 with the album ‘Solo’.

The upbeat and empowering track sees Jennie singing a “pretty girl mantra” aimed at celebrating a drama-free existence. Speaking about the release, Jennie stated, “It’s the perfect song to begin my new era. I think ‘Mantra’ will make my fans happy but also show a new side of me as a solo artist.” The song was reportedly inspired by her time recording in Los Angeles.

The music video for “Mantra,” directed by Tanu Muino, known for his work with artists such as Harry Styles and Dua Lipa, features scenes shot in Los Angeles. It begins with a young girl singing along to the track in the backseat of a car, transitioning to Jennie performing across various iconic locations in the city.

Regarding the music video, Jennie commented, “It reflects the main theme of female empowerment and confidence. It was important for the overall vision to be consistent, and I love how it turned out. I’m so excited to finally put it out there.”

This release follows her one-off single from the previous year and marks her first project since appearing in the HBO drama series ‘The Idol‘. The series, created by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson and musician The Weeknd, featured Jennie as part of the cast. She also collaborated with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp for the soundtrack of the show.

“Mantra” signifies the first song from Jennie under her venture with her own label and entertainment agency Odd Atelier, in collaboration with Columbia Records. Furthermore, the multifaceted artist has recently been exploring new territories as she announced the launch of her own label, OA, in December, dedicating herself to advancing her solo career while remaining active with BLACKPINK.
