Jennifer Aniston Calls Out JD Vance’s ‘Childless Cat Ladies’ Remarks
Jennifer Aniston has voiced her disappointment over comments made by JD Vance, Donald Trump‘s vice-presidential candidate, who referred to women without children as a ‘bunch of childless cat ladies’ during a 2021 interview.
The Friends star, 55, shared a clip from the interview on her Instagram, expressing disbelief that such remarks could come from someone seeking to be a vice president of the United States.
In her post, Aniston wrote, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States.” She also offered a prayer for Vance’s daughter, hoping she would be fortunate enough to have children of her own someday.
Vance’s comments came under fire after he criticized several prominent Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for being ‘childless.’ He claimed the future of the Democratic Party is led by people who do not have children, questioning how they could have a real stake in the country.
In her response, Aniston referenced her own struggles with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and mentioned Vance’s vote against legislation that would guarantee access to IVF nationwide. She highlighted the potential impact of such legislation on families trying to conceive.
Another response came from Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, who shared her thoughts on Vance’s comments, reminding him of the children that do exist within family dynamics.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also weighed in, discussing how Vance’s comments were made insensitively, especially considering the challenges he and his husband faced in their own adoption process.
The backlash from fans of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who identifies as child-free and has a fondness for cats, further showcased the negative reaction to Vance’s statements. One British writer humorously pointed out that Swift could be seen as a symbolic leader for ‘childless cat ladies.’
Jennifer Aniston has previously opened up about her difficult journey toward motherhood and advocated for women to be more informed about their reproductive choices, encouraging younger women to consider options like freezing their eggs.
