Jetstar Faces Class Action Over Flight Credits
Jetstar Airways is in hot water as a class action lawsuit has been filed against them for not refunding customers whose flights were cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic. This legal move has been initiated by Echo Law, a law firm that is also pursuing a similar case against Qantas.
The class action claims that Jetstar failed to return the money customers paid for their cancelled flights, even though they were legally required to do so. Andrew Paull, a partner at Echo Law, stated that Jetstar prioritized its profits over catering to customer needs.
Paull emphasized that many Jetstar customers ended up with restricted travel credits. He asserted these credits didn’t align with what customers initially agreed to when booking their flights. He argued that when those flights were cancelled, Jetstar should have returned customers’ money promptly.
The allegations against Jetstar also include a pattern of unfair conduct that goes against consumer rights laws. Paull pointed out that while customers were stuck at home, Jetstar benefited financially from holding onto their money.
A spokesperson for Jetstar indicated that the airline is going to review the claims made in the class action. They mentioned that last year, Jetstar eliminated expiry dates on COVID vouchers, allowing customers to use them indefinitely for multiple bookings.
The case is currently being funded by Court House Capital, which specializes in litigation financing. As Jetstar navigates this legal challenge, customers are watching closely to see if they will receive the refunds they rightfully expect.
