Ketanji Brown Jackson Speech Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson delivered a pointed message on Thursday criticizing President Donald Trump and his supporters for their attacks on the judiciary. Speaking at the First Circuit Judicial Conference, Jackson’s comments highlighted the increasing hostility judges face in light of political pressures.

Jackson emphasized the importance of judicial independence and the risks posed by public intimidation of judges. Without mentioning Trump by name, she expressed concern about the “relentless attacks and disregard” judges endure. She remarked, “It seems as though every time I read the news or turn on the television these days, I see the affronts,” reflecting the pervasive criticism of the judiciary.

During her 18-minute address, Jackson reminded attendees that May 1 is recognized globally as Labor Day and took the opportunity to advocate for judges’ rights. “These attacks are not random. They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity,” she asserted.

The recent administration has faced numerous rulings against its policies from judges across the United States, leading to calls for impeachment from Trump and his allies. Jackson noted the implications of these attacks, stating, “The threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government. And they ultimately risk undermining our Constitution and the rule of law.”

She referenced the challenges faced by judges historically, noting, “Judges have faced challenges like the ones we face today and have prevailed.” Jackson’s remarks were well-received, culminating in a standing ovation from the audience.
