Kano State Inaugurates Immunisation Taskforce to Enhance Healthcare
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, on Thursday, inaugurated a 25-member State Taskforce on Immunisation to strengthen the immunisation programmes across the state.
The governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, who made this known on Thursday in a statement, said Yusuf emphasised that the Taskforce members were carefully selected for their proven track records and technical expertise.
“Their primary objective is to positively impact on immunization efforts and primary healthcare services in Kano State,” he added.
Among others, the Taskforce’s responsibilities include providing leadership and support for the implementation of all immunisation activities, as well as supporting other primary healthcare services.
They are also tasked with reviewing and adopting the state’s annual immunisation work plan, ensuring it aligns with the State Health Annual Operation Plan.
Other key duties include conducting quarterly reviews of the immunisation work plan, advocating for timely and adequate resource allocation, ensuring the judicious use of funds, and monitoring progress in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition indices.
Also, the Taskforce will review the progress in routine immunisation delivery to ensure that all eligible children are reached and will provide quarterly updates to the State Executive Council.
Yusuf expressed the Kano State Government’s expectation that the Taskforce will provide the necessary oversight, and political and technical support to ensure the complete eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases in the state.
The statement further read, “The Taskforce is to be chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, alongside the Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf as co-chair.”
