Kansas Jayhawks Host Cincinnati Bearcats in Big 12 Showdown

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks will host the Cincinnati Bearcats this Saturday, September 27, at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, marking their second consecutive Big 12 Conference game. The kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on TNT, TruTV, and HBO Max.
Kansas comes into the matchup with a record of 3-1 and 1-0 in the Big 12 after a convincing 41-10 victory against West Virginia. In that game, the Jayhawks’ defense was particularly impressive, forcing eight punts, the most in a conference game since 2017, and allowing only 10 points, the fewest since 2007. Over three games at their new stadium, Kansas has surrendered just 24 points.
Linebacker Lathan, a transfer from West Virginia, led the defense with three tackles, a sack, and an interception returned for 32 yards against the Mountaineers. He currently leads Kansas with 28 tackles and 4.5 tackles-for-loss.
The Jayhawk defensive end also had a strong performance, recording his first sack of the season alongside seven tackles. Meanwhile, a defensive tackle contributed significantly with seven tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and a fumble recovery.
On the offensive side, quarterback Jalon Daniels continued his strong season by throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for 69 yards without any turnovers in the West Virginia win. He now has 12 touchdown passes for the season, ranking third nationally, along with 817 passing yards and 159 rushing yards.
Wide receivers and tight ends have joined the scoring, with several team members catching their first touchdowns of the season. Running back Williams, a transfer from Iowa, also contributed with 129 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, comes into the game well-rested, having not played since a 70-0 blowout victory over Northwestern State on September 13. The Bearcats hold a 2-1 record, having lost their season opener against Nebraska before bouncing back with wins over Bowling Green and Northwestern State.
Quarterback Brendan Sorsby leads Cincinnati’s offense. He has thrown for 655 yards, eight touchdowns, and just one interception this season, along with 175 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Key players for Sorsby include All-Big 12 tight end Joe Royer and wide receivers Cyrus Allen and Jeff Caldwell, who have combined for 21 catches, 317 yards, and four touchdowns.
This game will mark the fourth all-time meeting between Kansas and Cincinnati, with Kansas leading the series 2-1. Their last matchup occurred in 2023, while the Jayhawks last faced the Bearcats in Lawrence back in 1995, winning 23-18.
