LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Kanye West has reportedly reclaimed his spot as the wealthiest rapper alive, with a net worth of $2.77 billion, according to a recent Instagram post by the artist. The announcement, made on Thursday, January 23, cited data from business valuation firm Eton Venture Services, attributing his financial resurgence to his music portfolio and exclusive ownership of the Yeezy trademark.

If confirmed, West’s fortune would surpass that of his former collaborator and friend, Jay-Z, whose net worth stands at $2.5 billion. The two remain the only rappers to have crossed the billion-dollar threshold, a milestone they achieved as part of the legendary Watch the Throne duo. Earlier claims that Dr. Dre and Diddy had reached similar financial heights have since been debunked.

West’s financial comeback marks a significant turnaround from 2022, when he lost his billionaire status after Adidas severed ties with him following a series of antisemitic comments. At the time, Forbes estimated that his partnership with the German brand contributed $1.5 billion to his wealth, which was then valued at roughly $2 billion. The fallout left him with an estimated net worth of $400 million.

In a 2024 interview with TMZ, West admitted to facing severe financial hardship after the Adidas split. “I’m gonna be honest with y’all: I was two months from going bankrupt, really… And we survived. We survived through the cancellation,” he said. Despite the setback, West retained ownership of the Yeezy brand, which he has since taken independent. The brand has reportedly rebounded, generating seven-figure sales within a single day of its most recent clothing release.

Adidas, meanwhile, faced significant financial strain after ending its partnership with West, projecting a loss of around $246 million in net income for 2022. Despite the challenges, West’s resurgence underscores his enduring influence in both music and fashion.

Other artists, such as Diddy, are also nearing billionaire status, fueled by expanding media and spirits ventures. However, West and Jay-Z remain the undisputed leaders in the rap billionaire club, a testament to their unparalleled success in music and business.
