Katie Porter Faces Backlash Over Remarks About Her 12-Year-Old Daughter’s Fears After Trump’s Election Win
Democratic Rep. Katie Porter of California has sparked widespread outrage online following her recent appearance on FOX 11‘s ‘The ISSUE IS‘ segment, hosted by Elex Michaelson. During the interview, Porter shared a story about her 12-year-old daughter’s reaction to Donald Trump‘s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Porter recounted picking up her daughter from water polo practice on election night and finding her in tears. When asked why she was crying, the daughter allegedly said, ‘Mom, Trump won. Trump’s gonna win. And what if I get r*ped and I need to have an abortion?’ Porter used this anecdote to emphasize the fear and uncertainty many people feel and the importance of Democrats having strategies to protect people’s rights at both state and federal levels.
The remarks have triggered a significant backlash on social media, with many users accusing Porter of using her child for political gain. Critics have labeled her actions as ‘brainwashing’ and expressed concern for the emotional and mental well-being of her daughter. Some have also questioned the authenticity of the story, suggesting that Porter fabricated it to advance her political agenda.
Elon Musk and swimmer Riley Gaines were among those who criticized Porter, with Musk stating that Trump has been clear about vetoing a national abortion ban and Gaines calling Porter an ‘insufferable woman’ who failed as a mother. Other users pointed out that it is not normal for 12-year-old girls to be aware of such mature topics, comparing it to their own childhood experiences.
This incident is not the first time Porter has been embroiled in controversy. In the past, she has faced accusations of abusing her staff and her former husband, as well as allegations of using racist slurs, all of which she has denied.
