Katie Thurston Reveals Challenges of Stage 4 Cancer Treatment

LOS ANGELES, CA — Katie Thurston, a former star of ‘The Bachelorette,’ has shared updates about her ongoing battle with stage 4 breast cancer. In a candid Instagram post, she revealed struggles with memory loss and other challenging side effects from her treatment.
“I’m losing my memory,” Thurston, 34, wrote. She described experiences where she forgot details, such as where she had just come from while traveling. “Going through customs and them being like, ‘Where are you coming from?’ And I looked at him and I was like, ‘I don’t remember. I don’t remember.’”
Thurston is undergoing treatment for breast cancer that has spread to her liver. After finishing two months of medication, she expressed her concerns about the side effects, including excessive hair loss. “My hair is coming out in an unnatural amount of clumps. Working on that. I’m losing my memory. That’s great,” she said.
She also shared that she and her husband, Jeff Arcuri, have experienced moments of confusion and disagreements due to her memory issues. “I was like, ‘This has happened before.’ He was like, ‘When?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know but I know it has!’”
Despite the hardships, Thurston remains optimistic about her future. She decided to pursue a non-invasive treatment called Histotripsy at New York University. “I am optimistic about medical advancements in the future. Fingers crossed as a stage 4 girly,” she stated.
In her post, Thurston acknowledged National Cancer Survivors Day, noting, “Every day that I’m alive, I’m a survivor. So go me, I guess.” This year, she has been open about her experiences, providing followers regular updates on her health.
Thurston recently had to make significant decisions regarding her treatment, emphasizing the need for more effective options. After discussing failed medication options, she mentioned that if the next treatment does not work, she may need to consider having her ovaries removed.
“Not ideal. But the vacation was nice. Now I’m back at it again in New York City trying to live my best life as a f**king cancer patient,” she concluded, expressing her commitment to sharing her journey openly.
