Lionsgate Releases Trailer for Upcoming Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’
LOS ANGELES, CA – Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming biopic, “Michael,” chronicling the life of legendary entertainer Michael Jackson. The trailer will hit theaters ahead of the film “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” set to release on April 24, 2026, after several delays.
Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, plays the titular role, while Antoine Fuqua directs the film. The trailer showcases Jackson in the studio with notable producer Quincy Jones, portrayed by Kendrick Sampson. Jones is heard saying, ‘I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made; the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top.’
Audiences are treated to clips from Jackson’s childhood and his iconic performances, including the legendary “Thriller,” accompanied by his hit song “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”. The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring Miles Teller as Jackson’s attorney John Branca, Colman Domingo as his father Joe, Nia Long as his mother Katherine, and others.
The film was originally slated for release on October 3, 2025, but underwent reshoots and revisions since wrapping production in May 2024. The synopsis reveals that “Michael” offers an intimate look at Jackson’s rise to fame, exploring his legacy as one of the most influential artists.
Co-producers Graham King and John McClain, alongside executive producer David B. Householter, emphasize the film’s goal to humanize, yet not sanitize, Jackson’s complex life. The script was crafted by John Logan, known for his Academy Award-nominated work.
Despite speculation regarding its narrative approach, the trailer suggests the film will avoid delving into Jackson’s later-life controversies, choosing instead to focus on his artistry and personal life. The broad anticipation around “Michael” has already set up excitement for its theatrical debut in 2026.
