London’s #AskAboutAsthma Campaign Returns to Support Children and Young People with Asthma

Published

on

NHS England‘s Ask About Asthma campaign has made its annual return, focusing on aiding children and young individuals in navigating life with asthma. The campaign’s primary theme this year is equipping young asthma patients to ‘live their best lives’.

This year’s campaign is taking a holistic approach, acknowledging additional factors that play a role in asthma management. These include vaping, air quality, housing conditions, and mould to ensure comprehensive support for every child and young person with asthma in London.

Pharmacists are encouraged to support the #AskAboutAsthma campaign by engaging with parents and carers to provide essential information on asthma management.

Furthermore, pharmacists can offer practical guidance on inhaler techniques. Through observing and correcting any errors in technique, pharmacists can ensure that young patients are administering their medication correctly.

NHS Clinical Fellow and respiratory pharmacist at North West London ICB, Darush Attar-Zadeh, stresses the importance of pharmacist interventions. Regular medicine reviews can help identify issues such as medication adherence, which is crucial for effective asthma control.

Attar-Zadeh highlights that poor inhaler technique and non-adherence to preventative treatments can lead to uncontrolled asthma, posing significant burdens on patients and the healthcare system as a whole.

Pharmacists can enhance their support for children and young people with asthma by hosting medicine reviews and providing guidance on correct inhaler use. An #AskAboutAsthma pharmacy webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10 from 7.30-8.30pm to offer more insights and resources.

For further details on the campaign, upcoming educational events, and resources, interested individuals can visit the official Ask About Asthma website. The campaign aims to empower young asthma patients in London and enhance their overall quality of life.
