Sylmar Brush Fire Los Angeles County 2023

Firefighters are battling a fast-moving brush fire in Sylmar, Los Angeles County, after a 50-acre blaze broke out late Tuesday night. The fire, reported at approximately 10:10 p.m. in the 15900 block of W. Yarnell Street near Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, has prompted evacuation orders for residents north of the I-210 Freeway from Roxford Street to the I-5/SR-14 Freeway split.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the flames are spreading rapidly, with California Highway Patrol officers reporting that an entire mountainside appeared to be engulfed. Fire crews are working to contain the blaze, which is being fueled by dry conditions and strong winds.

Meanwhile, a separate fire erupted in Sun Valley, just south of Sylmar, after starting at a commercial building and spreading to nearby brush. The incident caused temporary closures of the I-5 Freeway in the area, further complicating firefighting efforts and traffic conditions.

Evacuation orders remain in effect as firefighters continue to battle the flames. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and follow evacuation instructions. The cause of both fires is under investigation.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
