Syracuse, N.Y. — Marty Domres, a former standout athlete at Christian Brothers Academy and a noteworthy NFL quarterback, has passed away at the age of 78.

Domres’ athletic journey began at CBA, where he excelled in basketball and baseball, earning multiple scholarship offers. He chose to play football at Columbia University, where he set 15 school records and two national records for passing and total offense. His impressive performance led to a selection as a first-team All-Ivy League quarterback.

After college, the San Diego Chargers selected Domres as the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 1969 NFL Draft. He later signed with the Baltimore Colts in 1972, where he took over as the successor to Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas. Over his NFL career, Domres completed 399 of 809 passes for 4,904 yards and 27 touchdowns in 90 games. Following his playing days, he settled in Baltimore and pursued a career in finance.
