LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Marvel Rivals, the popular third-person shooter game developed by NetEase Games, has unveiled its competitive ranking system, revealing a challenging climb for players aiming for the top tiers. Launched in December 2024, the game’s ranked mode has quickly become a focal point for its dedicated player base.

The ranking system features multiple tiers, starting with Bronze and ascending through Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and the pinnacle rank, One Above All. Players must earn 100 points to advance within a rank, with Diamond III and above granting the ability to ban one hero before matches. The top two ranks, Eternity and One Above All, are point-based and require consistent play to maintain position.

Rewards for climbing the ranks include exclusive skins and crests. For instance, reaching Gold, Platinum, or Diamond unlocks the Blood Shield skin for Invisible Woman, while Grandmaster rank adds the Silver Crest of Honor. The ultimate prize, the Gold Crest of Honor, is reserved for those who reach One Above All.

However, the journey to the top is far from easy. A recent Reddit post highlighted that only the top 20% of players reached Diamond rank in the first season, with Diamond players representing just 4.8% of the total player base. The post emphasized that even above-average players often find themselves stuck in Silver and Gold ranks, debunking claims that climbing to higher tiers is simple.

“In reality, even if you exclude Bronze 3 in its entirety, only the top 20% of players made it to Diamond last season,” the Reddit user stated. “Those players have internalized the notion that not being able to get to Diamond rank means that you’re unredeemable trash, even though that rank actually represents the top quintile at best.”

Season one’s rank reset, which dropped players seven ranks, added to the challenge. Many players who had reached higher tiers were brought back down to Silver, Gold, and Platinum, creating a more competitive environment. Commenters on the Reddit thread shared mixed opinions, with some agreeing that ranked play is unbalanced, while others argued that climbing is achievable with effort.

“I’m either put against a team that feels like I’m going against a pro esports team, or against people that have just started playing video games in general,” one commenter wrote. “Ranked is just wildly unbalanced.”

Despite the difficulties, the game encourages players to embrace the competitive grind. With team-based gameplay and strategic hero bans, Marvel Rivals offers a dynamic experience that rewards persistence and skill. As the community continues to grow, the debate over rank accessibility and balance remains a hot topic among fans.
