Met Gala 2025 Black Style Theme

New York City, NY — The highly anticipated Met Gala will take place on May 5, 2025, featuring the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This year’s gala aims to celebrate the politics and history behind how Black men dress, presenting a significant nod toward Black dandyism.

The Met Gala, known as fashion’s biggest night, will begin with guest arrivals scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. While the gala itself won’t allow press access, attendees’ red carpet looks will be live-streamed, allowing fans to engage with the event online.

This year’s edition is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first focus on menswear for the Costume Institute since 2003. The initiative is inspired by Monica L. Miller‘s book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” highlighting the historical significance of tailored clothing in Black communities.

“Black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power connect,” Miller stated, emphasizing the evolution of style in response to historical context. Attendees are encouraged to wear pieces that demonstrate tailored elegance, with the dress code being “Tailored For You.”

The gala is co-chaired by Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Colman Domingo, while LeBron James will serve as the honorary co-chair. The host committee includes notable figures such as André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Spike Lee, and Janelle Monáe.

Tickets to the gala are priced at $75,000, and while the guest list remains a closely guarded secret, it typically includes many famous faces from various fields. Outspoken political figure Jack Schlossberg announced he would boycott this year’s event due to ongoing global issues.

As preparations unfold, excitement builds for an evening set to reflect historical themes in fashion, where celebrity attendees will take to the red carpet showcasing their interpretations of this year’s theme.
