Mimi Chakraborty Steps Down as Trinamool Congress MP, Cites Discontent with Local Leadership
Actor and Trinamool Congress leader, Mimi Chakraborty, has decided to step down from her position as a Member of Parliament, citing dissatisfaction with the local party leadership in her constituency.
Mimi Chakraborty, who emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Jadavpur seat, formally handed in her resignation to the head of Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee.
During a press interaction, Chakraborty expressed, “Today, I had a conversation with our party leader. I had submitted my resignation to her on the 13th of February. Over the years, I have come to realize that politics is not aligned with my interests and aspirations.”
When probed about why she chose to resign directly to Mamata Banerjee and not follow the conventional procedure of informing the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mimi explained, “Once I receive the approval from the TMC leadership, I will proceed with the formal submission to the Speaker.”
Addressing the challenges she faced, Chakraborty hinted at possible hindrances caused by the local party leadership in her decision-making process, stating, “I cannot ignore the impact of local dynamics on my responsibilities and mental well-being; hence, I stand firm on my decision not to compromise on my peace of mind.”
Noteworthy is Chakraborty’s victory in the 2019 elections where she triumphed over prominent opponents such as BJP‘s Anupam Hazra and CPM’s Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya in the electoral battle for the Jadavpur seat.
