Delbert Hosemann Mississippi Senate Collapse

JACKSON, Miss. — Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann collapsed on the floor of the Mississippi Senate on Wednesday morning while presiding over the session. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m., shortly before the Senate was set to address final appropriation bills for the day.

During the livestream from the Senate, Hosemann was seen standing at his podium when he suddenly slumped over, falling to one side. Medical personnel quickly rushed to his aid, and onlookers could be heard calling for a nurse. Senate staff promptly cleared the chamber of individuals other than senators.

According to witnesses, Hosemann regained consciousness and was seen sitting upright shortly after the fall. Senator John Horhn reported to 16 WAPT News that after the incident, the lieutenant governor stood up and walked to his office, indicating he appeared alert.

Governor Tate Reeves expressed his concern on social media, stating, “We are praying for Lt. Gov. Hosemann.” At the time of the incident, Hosemann, 77, was serving in his second term as lieutenant governor. Prior to this role, he held the position of Mississippi secretary of state from 2008 to 2020.

No immediate details regarding Hosemann’s medical condition were made available. While AMR ambulances were on standby outside the Capitol, he opted to leave in a government vehicle alongside staff and security, rather than being transported by ambulance.

Before the incident, Hosemann had briefly stepped out of the Senate chamber to speak with representatives from the Mississippi Main Street Association, returning shortly before collapsing. As the situation developed, the Legislature removed a video recording of the proceedings to maintain privacy.
