LOS ANGELES, CA — Comedians Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo are set to voice Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle, in the upcoming film Shrek 5, as announced on Thanksgiving Day.

The sequel, produced by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2027. It will feature returning franchise stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, along with newcomer Zendaya as the couple’s daughter, Felicia.

Hernández, known for his work on Saturday Night Live, has gained attention for his roles in projects such as Happy Gilmore 2 and the upcoming comedy, 72 Hours. Gisondo, recognized for portraying Jimmy Olsen in the recent Superman film, has also appeared in Licorice Pizza and Booksmart.

The official announcement included a playful video of Hernández and Gisondo preparing for their roles, showcasing Hernández in green body paint as he embraced his ogre character. “I might have gone a bit overboard,” he joked on social media.

The film will be directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, both of whom have a history with the Shrek franchise. Vernon directed Shrek 2 and voices the Gingerbread Man, while Dohrn has worked on various Shrek films, even voicing Rumpelstiltskin.

Gina Shay, who produced Shrek Forever After, will produce Shrek 5, alongside Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination, known for creating the Despicable Me and Minions franchises. Brad Ableson, co-director of Minions: The Rise of Gru, will also co-direct.

The Shrek franchise has been highly successful, earning nearly $3 billion globally since the release of its first film in 2001, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It has also inspired a Broadway musical and live attractions worldwide.
