House Of Guinness Netflix Drama

Dublin, Ireland — The new Netflix drama, House of Guinness, premieres Thursday, drawing upon the rich and tumultuous history of the Guinness family. Ivana Lowell, a descendant of the renowned brewing dynasty, helms the project, which dramatizes her family’s legacy amidst significant social upheaval.

House of Guinness showcases the fierce competition among the four children of Sir Benjamin Guinness, who built a brewing empire in Dublin. The series captures the political and social unrest of Ireland while delving into the familial strife over the inheritance left by their father, whose fortune is valued at £162 million today.

“It’s based on real events, which makes it all the more compelling,” Lowell said. A decade ago, she conceived the idea while spending Christmas in Ireland with her family. She expressed inspiration watching Downton Abbey, realizing her family’s history was equally captivating. The production marks a significant collaboration with Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, who adapted Lowell’s initial proposal into a full series.

“We are not painted as saints,” she said, “but the love comes through.” Despite the honest portrayal of her ancestors, Lowell reported that her relatives are eagerly anticipating the series’ release.

Featuring actors like Louis Partridge and Anthony Boyle, the drama is set against the backdrop of significant historical events, focusing on the characters’ intertwining lives as they navigate the challenges of their legacy. Larry Lacey, one of the series’ producers, mentioned that the storytelling reflects the clan’s enduring spirit and their struggles.

Lowell emphasized that the series explores themes of rivalry and complex family dynamics without glossing over the darker aspects of her family’s history. “The great thing about my family is that they have a good sense of humor,” she added.

She plans to continue expanding the narrative if the series is successful, aiming to explore additional stories from the Guinness legacy. The excitement surrounding the show creates anticipation among the family, as well as fans of historical dramas.

House of Guinness will be available on Netflix starting Thursday.
