Nigeria Police Force Explains Opposition to Viral 2024 Slogan
The Nigeria Police Force has provided clarifications on why it has expressed opposition to the popular and trending 2024 slogan, ‘no gree for anybody’.
Even though the source of the slogan is unknown, many Nigerians, especially the youth, have adopted it as a source of motivation for the new year.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, cautioned against the use of the slogan, citing incidents of violence against police officers.
However, the warning from the Force received strong opposition from the public, with the slogan even gaining more popularity and being further disseminated, with individuals asserting that nobody can stop them from using it.
In a tweet posted on Thursday night from his official handle, the spokesperson reiterated that the purpose of the Police Force is to provide advice and education to Nigerians on identifying potential early warning signs of impending danger, as they are a civil and people-oriented institution.
ACP Muyiwa Adejobi further cautioned against using the slogan to attack security operatives who are carrying out their duties.
He stated, ‘Do not take the 2024 slogan for granted. Do not abuse the slogan and use it as a means to attack security operatives while they are performing their duties. Be sensible with the slogan and strive for peace wherever you may be, including within your home. May our beloved country be well.’
