The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced its intention to commence the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) by July 29, as part of efforts to enhance security and combat vehicle-related crimes in the country.

According to Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the NPF, the e-CMR serves as an advanced online repository of motor vehicle data, designed to support police investigations in areas such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun has directed the full implementation and enforcement of the digitalized motor vehicle registration system, with the launch scheduled for July 29, 2024, aimed at strengthening the safety and security framework of the nation.

The e-CMR system will facilitate seamless services such as change of ownership, license number, engine, and chassis/body, ensuring the validation of vehicle authenticity, ownership, and aiding in the efficient tracking and recovery of stolen vehicles, while also preventing the purchase of stolen vehicles by unsuspecting buyers.

Vehicle owners and users are encouraged to register for the digitalized CMR certificate online at cmris.npf.gov.ng, in preparation for the enforcement deadline set by the NPF.
