Nintendo Switch 2 Console Features And Storage

REDMOND, Washington — The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches on June 5, 2025, offering gamers 256 GB of internal storage, eight times more than the original Switch.

However, not all of that space is accessible to users. A portion is reserved for the console’s system software, which supports applications like the Nintendo eShop. After installing the day-one system update, users should find around 228 GB to 230 GB of usable storage, excluding games and saved data.

After downloading a full library from the original Switch, players still have approximately 160 GB of space left, sufficient for new native Switch 2 games. Furthermore, storage can be expanded with a microSD Express card, allowing for an increase to 2 TB.

The Switch 2 retains a similar design to its predecessor, featuring a 1080p handheld screen and 4K output for TV play. A custom Nvidia graphics processor enhances visual capabilities, although this may impact battery life, now reduced to 6.5 hours compared to the previous model’s 9 hours.

The Switch 2 also introduces exclusive support for a GameCube virtual console that features classic titles. However, potential buyers should be aware of the additional costs associated with Nintendo’s online services, such as the basic Nintendo Online plan starting at $20 per year.

Launch day bundles include a Mario Kart World edition priced at $500, and accessories will need to be purchased separately.

Nintendo has made it clear that users do not own the games they purchase but hold a license to use them. The company reserves the right to deactivate devices found to have unauthorized modifications.

With excitement building ahead of the launch, customers can find the Switch 2 at retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop on the day of release. Fans are eager to experience the new features and enhanced graphics the Switch 2 promises.
