Nintendo Switch 2 Pre Order Announcement

REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo announced today that retail pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025. At launch on June 5, 2025, the console will be priced at $449.99, while a bundle including Mario Kart World will cost $499.99.

The prices for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World will also remain unchanged at $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza will be priced at $69.99. Nvidia states, however, that due to changing market conditions, prices for some accessories may differ from previous announcements.

Nintendo is aware of recent pre-order delays and has apologized to customers. “We share our customers’ excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2, and we appreciate their patience,” the company said in a statement.

The upcoming console will feature built-in storage of 256GB and will support only microSD Express cards, a new, faster storage medium. These upgraded cards will allow for enhanced performance, enabling users to store and play their games efficiently. However, only cards with the “EX” symbol will work with the device.

Initial offerings from manufacturers include models from Samsung and SanDisk, with capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB. Current pricing for a 256GB microSD Express card starts at $60, and due to limited stock, some sizes may be temporarily unavailable. “We will keep updating our inventory as new products are released,” said a Nintendo spokesperson.

Currently, the only cards available for pre-order include the Samsung 256GB microSD Express Card and the SanDisk variants. Their release is expected to coincide with that of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

Nintendo encourages fans to ensure compatibility when purchasing microSD Express cards, noting that traditional microSD cards will only be able to load screenshots and videos.
