4 Non Blondes Reunite for Rare Performance at BottleRock Napa Valley
NAPA, Calif. — The iconic ’90s rock band 4 Non Blondes will reunite for only the second time in 30 years at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival this May. The group, best known for their 1992 hit “What’s Up?,” will take the stage together for the first time since a 2014 fundraiser performance.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, lead singer Linda Perry revealed the emotional journey behind the reunion. “It’s the right time in my head. It’s the right time in my heart,” Perry said. “I’ve been kind of putting that energy out, because I want 2025 to be my year.”
Perry, 59, co-founded 4 Non Blondes in San Francisco in the late 1980s with bassist Christa Hillhouse, guitarist Shaunna Hall, and drummer Wanda Day. The band released their debut and only album, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, in 1992, which included their Grammy-nominated anthem “What’s Up?” Perry left the group in 1994, citing personal struggles and creative differences.
“I had a hard time in the band; not because of them, because I wasn’t clear on the kind of music I wanted to do yet,” Perry explained. “I was just really finding myself.”
The upcoming performance marks a significant moment for the band, who have rarely communicated since their split. Perry reached out to her former bandmates individually to gauge their interest in reuniting. “They were excited, and so I’m gonna go hang out with them in San Francisco, rehearse and just dick around,” she said. “Not really have a plan, but just see how it feels.”
Perry also hinted at the possibility of new music, revealing that a second 4 Non Blondes album was recorded but never released. “It was pretty decent,” she said. “I just couldn’t do it. My heart couldn’t do it. I was in a really bad space during that time.”
Since leaving the band, Perry has established herself as a prolific songwriter and producer, working with artists like Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani. Her solo career includes albums In Flight (1996) and After Hours (1999).
The BottleRock Napa Valley festival, scheduled for May 23-25, will feature 4 Non Blondes alongside other major acts. Fans of the band are eagerly anticipating the rare reunion, which promises to be a highlight of the festival.
