Nvidia RTX 5080 Leaked Benchmarks Hint at 20% Performance Boost
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Leaked benchmark results for Nvidia‘s upcoming RTX 5080 GPU suggest a significant performance boost over its predecessor, the RTX 4080. According to purported Geekbench scores, the RTX 5080 achieves a Vulkan score approximately 20% higher than the RTX 4080, while its OpenCL performance lags behind by less than 10%.
The Vulkan results place the RTX 5080 close to the performance of the flagship RTX 4090, though it falls short in OpenCL benchmarks, where the RTX 4090 maintains a 20% lead. The RTX 5090, Nvidia’s next-generation flagship, is rumored to outperform the RTX 5080 by 40% to 45%, though these figures remain unconfirmed.
Tom's Hardware notes that the RTX 5080’s Vulkan performance appears stronger than its OpenCL results, a trend consistent with previous generations. Synthetic benchmarks like Geekbench, while not definitive, provide early insights into the GPU’s raw power. Real-world gaming tests will ultimately determine its true capabilities.
The RTX 5080 is set to launch on January 30, alongside the RTX 5090, with the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti following in February. Priced at $999, the RTX 5080 represents a $200 reduction from the RTX 4080’s launch price, offering a more consumer-friendly entry point into Nvidia’s high-end GPU lineup.
Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, which powers the RTX 5080, promises significant advancements in performance and efficiency. However, as with all pre-release leaks, these benchmarks should be approached with caution until official reviews confirm the results.
