Opposition Criticizes Election Commission Over 7 Phase Lok Sabha Election Schedule In 2024

Opposition parties criticized the Election Commission‘s decision to hold the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in seven phases, raising concerns over a month-long break in governance and election processes. Shiv Sena‘s Priyanka Chaturvedi noted that the long election duration contradicts the concept of ‘one nation, one election.’ She expressed concerns that the prolonged period of elections might create a governance void during the voting period.

West Bengal‘s Chandrima Bhattacharya highlighted the challenges of conducting elections across the states in seven phases, urging for a more consolidated process to boost voter turnout. Opposition parties raised questions over the implementation of the election schedule and its impact on governance.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed BJP‘s aims to secure 370 seats in the upcoming elections, with a larger vision of taking the NDA beyond 400. He emphasized the party’s commitment to efficient governance and development under PM Modi’s leadership.

West Bengal‘s voting will be held across seven phases, starting from April 19, and concluding on June 4, 2024. The elections in Mumbai’s districts will be consolidated into a single phase scheduled for May 20.

The Lok Sabha elections for Jammu and Kashmir‘s five parliamentary constituencies will also be conducted in five phases, starting from Udhampur voting on April 19, and concluding with Baramulla voting on May 20.
