Oshiomhole Seeks Forgiveness from Igbinedion During 90th Birthday Celebration

At Chief Gabriel Igbinedion’s 90th birthday banquet held in Benin on Saturday, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole publicly sought forgiveness for any past wrongs he might have committed against the prominent businessman during his tenure in office.

During the event, Oshiomhole praised Igbinedion, referring to him as a “good father,” and acknowledged his significant contributions to society. The former governor expressed his regret for any actions that might have irritated Igbinedion during his time in office.

Oshiomhole highlighted the importance of Igbinedion’s role in his political journey, stating, “I want to publicly acknowledge your support for me in 2007 and 2008, without which I might never have become the governor of Edo State.” He also lauded Igbinedion for his ability to unite people across different regions and political affiliations.

The former governor, reflecting on his Catholic faith, confessed to having committed some actions that he now regrets, saying, “At 90, it is only right that I ask for your forgiveness for any of my actions that may have irritated you.” He compared Igbinedion’s vast influence to that of a parent with many children, acknowledging that among many, some are bound to cause unintentional harm.

Oshiomhole humorously noted the challenges of parenthood, suggesting that the only way to avoid disagreeable actions by children is not to have any, but recognized that with as many children as Igbinedion has, some irritation is inevitable.

Finally, he expressed hope for reconciliation, not only with Chief Gabriel Igbinedion but also with his family, including his son, Lucky Igbinedion. Moreover, he praised Igbinedion for his visionary leadership in establishing Nigeria’s first private university, which has been a significant contribution to the nation’s educational advancement.
